On April 19, international students embarked on a fascinating cultural excursion to Kaiping, Jiangmen. The trip featured visits to the picturesque Chikan Town and the UNESCO-listed Zili Diaolou Village, offering a unique glimpse into the region’s rich heritage.

The day began at Chikan Town, where students wandered along the charming riverside streets lined with well-preserved Qilou (arcade buildings) blending Chinese and Western architectural styles. The tranquil scenery and historical ambiance provided a perfect backdrop for photography and cultural immersion.

Next, the group explored the iconic Diaolou in Zili Village, renowned for their unique fusion of Chinese and European designs. These towering structures, built by overseas Chinese in the early 20th century, reflect Kaiping’s history of migration and resilience. Students learned about the Diaolou’s defensive purposes and admired their intricate carvings and sturdy construction.

The trip not only helped students understand the cultural diversity of Guangdong but also strengthened bonds among the international and HMT student communities.
