CULTURE DAY | Shaping Tradition at Lingnan Impression Park
26 Oct 2026
On Saturday, October 24, a group of 45 international and HMT students embarked on a cultural journey to Lingnan Impression Park in Guangzhou. This event offered participants a full afternoon of sightseeing, live performances, and hands-on craftsmanship, immersing them in the rich traditions of Lingnan culture.

The visit began with a guided walk through the park, where the students explored its traditional streets, historic architecture, and folk art displays. Wandering through recreated Lingnan-style alleyways, they listened to guided introductions to local customs and watched live cultural performances, including a lion dance that brought centuries-old traditions to life.
For many participants, it was their first close encounter with Lingnan culture. It fully demonstrated the charm of profound Lingnan culture and left a deep impression in their hearts.

The highlight of the afternoon was the clay lion head workshop. Under the guidance of an instructor, the students learned about the history and symbolism of the Lingnan lion dance — a nationally recognized form of intangible cultural heritage — before rolling up their sleeves to shape their own miniature lion heads from clay. From the distinctive horn and bulging eyes to the intricate patterns and colors, each step gave the students a hands-on appreciation of the craftsmanship behind the tradition.

The clay lion heads, each one unique in color and expression, became more than souvenirs — they were tangible memories of an afternoon spent learning, creating, and laughing together.
Beyond the sights and crafts, the event served a deeper purpose: helping new international and HMT students settle into life in Guangzhou, experience local culture firsthand, and build friendships across regions and backgrounds.
