I had the opportunity to immerse myself in a new culture, make lasting connections, and pursue my academic interests in a vibrant and supportive environment. Reflecting on my journey so far, I have encountered thought-provoking questions that have shaped my perspective on this unique experience.
What attracted you to HKUST(GZ) ?
A diverse community! My journey to HKUST(GZ) began when I first arrived in Guangzhou from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I was drawn to the cross-disciplinary education model and the welcoming atmosphere of the university. Studying International Economics and Trade at SCUT, and now pursuing my studies at the Society Hub, IPE, has allowed me to explore my academic interests and engage with a diverse community of students and faculty members.
How has your transition to HKUST(GZ) been?
It has been smooth! Before coming to HKUST(GZ), I took the necessary steps to prepare for this new chapter in my life. From submitting my application to participating in the interview process, I approached the experience with a sense of adventure and openness. Looking back, I wouldn't change a thing about the way I prepared for this transition.
The transition to HKUST(GZ) has been smooth overall, with the most challenging aspect being the search for a supervisor and defining a specific research topic. However, with the guidance and support of the faculty, I was able to navigate this process successfully. One of the most memorable experiences during my time at HKUST(GZ) was participating in the Red Bird Music Festival. It was an opportunity to showcase my talents, connect with fellow students, and create lasting memories.
What do you enjoy the most about HKUST(GZ)?
Studies and activities. What I enjoy the most about HKUST(GZ is the balance between academic rigor and a vibrant social life. The school provides ample resources and support for students to thrive in their studies and engage in extracurricular activities. I have been able to make new friends, both locally and internationally, fostering a sense of community and belonging.
If you could offer one piece of advice to a new international student, what would it be?
If I could offer one piece of advice to a new international student, it would be to embrace every opportunity to get involved in activities and immerse themselves in the vibrant campus life. The memories created from these experiences will be cherished for years to come.
