What attracted you to HKUST(GZ) ?

I found out about this school while I was working on my design related to accessibility and additive manufacturing for rehabilitation. I read a paper by Professor Mingming Fan and looked for his research group, which presented a diversity of research related to accessibility.” Another reason is I always love to explore new places. Qingsheng provides high-speed trains to Hong Kong, so I can still have a closer connection with my family compared to studying abroad.

What’s the biggest challenge you had as a freshman? How did you handle it?

I haven’t noticed the biggest challenge at HKUST(GZ). I considered all challenges as my learning experience, like being a group leader, presenter and participant in speech contests, I spent time preparing, practicing and learning to accept failures to shorten the recovery time.

Could you share your most memorable experience at HKUST(GZ) so far?

One of the most memorable experiences at HKUST(GZ) is to participate in the 3MT competition. After the first year, I gained experience in presentation, yet I have never tried giving a public speech. During the contest, I learned from participants from the bachelor to PhD program and strengthened my presentation skills in conferences and pitching competitions to the general audience.

What do you enjoy the most about HKUST(GZ)?

The working environment and atmosphere between peers provide adequate physical space and emotional encouragement for discussions and making prototypes.

What’s your plan for study?

I would like to pursue further study with my research interest in accessible rehabilitation devices.

Can you share some experiences about the award “十大杰出港生”?Do you have any suggestions for participants next year?

The student contest is delivered in 3 stages: 1) preliminary interview, 2) academic presentation and 3) presentation of your vision and career plan. I have never participated in contests, which consist of multiple stages, examining the multi-dimensional aspects of oneself. Rethink the meaning of the award, I cherish the whole process of preparation and participation. During the contest, I took the opportunity to make new connections with students with research interests in public policy, Chinese medicine, music, etc. This is what I have never imagined, for I seldom take the initiative to talk and reach out.
If you consider applying for the student contest, I would like to emphasize the importance of your identity, like what is your research interest, what you have done for this interest, and how you are going to pursue your visions with what you have done as well as the work-in-progress, presenting in a manner that as concrete as possible.
