The Library of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) is a smart library equipped with technology-enriched spaces and services. It plays the roles of a gallery, archive, museum, and a cultural hub, which altogether serve as the “the third place” for the HKUST(GZ) community to gather, learn, create, and collaborate, as well as the epicenter of exploring emerging technology. 

Resources and Services 

The library houses a comprehensive collection including a great variety of subjects, to support the learning, teaching, and research and meet the holistic and integrative education goals for the university. You can find all library resources via PowerSearch

  • Print Books: You may use your Cellphone or the Self-checkout Machines to borrow books. Please check the Policy on Borrow & Return for more information and use the visualized tool StackMap to find the exact shelf location of print books.   

  • Course Reserves: Library books are reserved by instructors as reference readings for courses offered in each semester. You may borrow print materials for 3/24 hours each time at the 2F Ask Us Desk and access digital materials 24/7 online. 

  • E-resources: All E-Resources can be accessed if you are connected to the campus network. For remote access (Off-campus access), please refer to the instructions on setting up VPN. 

  • LibGuides: Go to the LibGuides Homepage to get instructions and guidance on core library resources in learning, research, or a particular subject field/class. 

  • Library Workshops: Explore the open Library Workshops on various topics or databases. 

  • ChatBot: is an AI-powered library assistant at the library homepage for general inquiries. Feel free to ask any questions on library resources, services and devices. 

  • Research Consultation: Library Research Help staff are available to answer your questions, guide you to available resources, and support your learning and research. Consultations are available in-person, online, or by e-mail. Make an Appointment if you want a one-on-one research help. 

  • Thesis Submission: The Library collects all HKUST(GZ) theses and dissertations in electronic format. Please submit your documents via the Online Thesis Submission System

  • Reading List: Library helps to create integrated and engaging reading lists that provide you with seamless access to course materials via Canvas

Space and Facilities 

  • Hours: Mon-Sun 08:00AM-11:00pm (Library Space); Mon-Sun 09:00AM-05:00PM (Ask Us Desk on the 2F). 

  • Open Space: 1F - 4F. 

  • Entrances: The 3 library entrances are: 1) Main Entrance on the 1F of the west side. 2) The East & West Concourse Entrances on the 2F. Tap your physical/digital campus card when entering/leaving the library. 

  • Silence Booths: are soundproof cabins located near the passenger lifts on the 3F & 4F Floor. 

  • Financial Research Data Lab: Bloomberg and Wind terminals are installed on the computers in Room 310 and near the passenger lifts of the 1F and 2F. 

  • Technology Items: Library users can borrow a variety of Technology Items that facilitate learning from the Ask Us Desk on the 2F Floor. 

  • Computers and Monitors: Search Terminals, iMacs, Windows PCs and monitors are available for doing academic work of various purposes. 

  • Printers: Printers are located on the 2F, 3F and 4F Floor. Please download and install the Printer Driver to print. In addition, there is a professional book scanner for digitization jobs on the 2F and a photo printer on the 1F. 

  • Self-service E-Lockers: are located on the 2F Floor of the E4 & W4 Building (near the concourse entrances) for library users to temporarily store their belongings.
