DISCOVERING CHINA | Experience Chinese Culture at Splendid China

SHENZHEN, November 15th – Over 25 international students from HKUST(GZ) immersed themselves in a vibrant cultural journey at Splendid China-Folk Culture Villages (锦绣中华民俗村). The excursion featured thrilling live performances and meticulously crafted miniature landscapes, offering students an unforgettable encounter with China's diverse heritage.
Equestrian Show Opens the Day
Students watched in awe as skilled riders demonstrated breathtaking acrobatics atop galloping horses—including archery stunts, daring swordplay maneuvers, and coordinated cavalry charges that recreated the martial spirit of imperial frontiers. The thunderous hooves and dynamic choreography set an exhilarating tone for the day.
Exploring Miniature Wonders
Following the equestrian display, students marveled at meticulously crafted scale models representing over 80 famous historical sites and breathtaking natural wonders from across China, including replicas of the Great Wall, Terracotta Army, Forbidden City, and Potala Palace. This unique "see all of China in one day" experience provided valuable geographical context for their studies.
Dazzling Traditional Attire
A spectacular stage performance captivated everyone with its vibrant showcase of traditional costumes. Dancers adorned in stunning outfits representing various Chinese dynasties and ethnic groups moved gracefully across the stage amidst elaborate sets.
Mesmerizing Molten Metal Sparks
As dusk fell, anticipation built for the highlight: The Intangible Cultural Heritage spectacle – Da Tie Hua, or "Striking Molten Iron Flowers". Gasps filled the air as skilled artisans courageously struck molten iron against boards high, creating dazzling showers of golden sparks resembling enormous fiery chrysanthemums blooming against the night sky – a truly unforgettable demonstration showcasing centuries-old craftsmanship.
Organized by GLD, this outing aimed not only to provide recreation but also offer experiential learning outside classrooms walls while fostering camaraderie among participants who hail globally yet share common interest exploring host nation culture together during time studying abroad here locally too!
